Want to study engineering in the coveted IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs? Your first step would be to qualify IIT-JEE Mains.

Joint Entrance Exam Main is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Authority (NTA) to offer admission to BE/BTech, BPlan and BArch courses at the IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions) across the country.

The top 2.5 lakh score holders in JEE Mains are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced for admission to various undergraduate engineering programmes offered by IITs in India.

If you wish to pursue BArch or BPlan courses, you have to appear for one more exam. This article focuses on admission to BTech courses. As soon as you start, you should have two things, a copy of the syllabus and the set of Previous Year Question Papers.

What is the importance of a time table?

Is coaching necessary for clearing IIT Mains exam?

IIT Mains is a highly competitive exam. Therefore, most students join formal coaching because it keeps them motivated and on track. Since the syllabus is huge, coaching helps in covering the syllabus in a systematic manner within time. Having said that, joining coaching is not necessary. If you are self-motivated and driven enough, then self-study supplemented with school and a good test series is more than enough.

Should one join a test series?

Giving timed tests regularly (preferably on a weekly basis) is very important to gauge your level of preparation. Joining a test series to make yourself acquainted with the exam environment is also highly recommended.
