Samsung Placement Procedure: Need to know guide

Samsung Placement Procedure Gude

Samsung is the first Korean domestic engineering firm. Having spread to over 39 countries, Samsung is now known as a worldwide brand, renowned for its splendid range of electronics and appliances. The company has also ventured into the power sector, with industrial production facilities, power plants, and much more. Notable Samsung industrial subsidiaries include the information technology wing of Samsung, which has been measured to be the 4th largest of its kind in the world based on market value.

Every year, the IT wing of Samsung India looks to hire the freshest and brightest minds from engineering colleges all over the world. All that is required is an aptitude, an attitude, and a will to learn!

Samsung conducts on-campus hiring processes for several of its research institutes, located across the country. The focus is on technical and coding knowledge of candidates, along with general aptitude and attitude. Here’s how the Samsung placement process works-

Round 1. Coding round

The first round is what Samsung does differently than the hiring processes of other companies. Instead of having shorter questions mixed in with some multiple-choice problems, Samsung asks students to solve a single comprehensive coding problem within 3 hours. The criteria for selection is to pass all the 10 test cases, which is by no means an easy feat, hence the three hour time period. Samsung holds this round to check the basic problem-solving skills of students when it comes to data structures.

The number of submissions of code for candidates is limited (approximately 3-10), but candidates can compile and test their code as many times as they want. However, it is only after submitting the code that candidates know how many test cases they’ve passed.

Round 2. First technical interview

The students that clear the first coding round move on to the technical interview round. Interviewers focus their questions on core computer science subjects, such as operating systems, database management, object oriented programming, networking, and data structures. Interviewers may also ask students about projects that they’ve worked on, or any prior experience that students have, in terms of internships. Some common questions asked by recruiters at Samsung include the K level sum of a binary tree, questions based on cycles in a directed graph, demand paging, and questions on unique binary search trees.

One key segment of the first technical interview is that students are asked to explain the algorithm used to solve the questions in the coding round. Therefore, students must be clear while explaining their approach to the recruiters.

Round 3. Second technical interview

Candidates who perform well in the first technical interview round are moved on to the second technical interview. The basic format of this interview remains the same as the first, with questions on experience, projects, and core academic subjects.

Round 4. HR round

The next is the HR round where the questions are based on your interests, hobbies and other general topics. Accompanying that, the questions like ‘Why do you want to join the company?’ will be asked. Overcome all these hurdles, and you’ll find yourself working at Samsung in the not so distant future!
